The Longsight Festival

Groundswell has helped support the growth of the Longsight Festival, a community-led event that brings residents, organisations and local artists together to celebrate the neighbourhood.

What began as an idea shared by residents at a community meeting has grown into a major annual event, attracting thousands of attendees and providing opportunities for people to connect through culture, creativity and community activities.

With support from Groundswell, the festival has brought together local organisations, volunteers, performers and stallholders, helping strengthen relationships across one of Manchester's most diverse communities. The event has also created opportunities for organisations to collaborate, with several groups developing new partnerships after meeting at the festival.

One local partner said: "We had only just set up and were invited to the Groundswell festival. It was great for us because we got to connect with other organisations and now we're about to start working in schools with one of them."

By creating a welcoming space for residents to come together, the festival is helping build community confidence, celebrate local culture and strengthen connections across Longsight.
